How Students Can Use Digital Badges/Micro-Credentials

Digital badges and micro-credentials capture the growth, competency, and learning journey for a  learner in a particular focus area. A badge represents an achievement and, in the best case, evidence of that achievement. A badge or set of badges show a student's learning journey and understanding of content around a set of objectives. When badges are issued with the highest standard, a student must show their competency through evidence, be evaluated by an instructor, and issued a badge with clickable metadata so that viewers can see the process and understand the criteria.

The beauty of digital badges is they are portable, transparent, verifiable, and allow the earner to share their accomplishment in a variety of ways.

SimRated’s Digital Badge Certification

At SimRated, we issue digital badges based on evidence of medical procedure knowledge and procedure performance as evaluated by a medical practitioner. When students earn this industry-recognized badge in medical procedures, they can share it with employers, internship programs, colleges, and others with similar interests. Furthermore, they can share it with the confidence that the badge has credibility.

Additionally, badges issued by SimRated are linked to ESMI Skills which allow students to communicate to colleges, communities, and employers about their skills and proficiencies. Students can learn more about job opportunities, internships, skills required for a particular career, and employers and universities can connect with students who have the skills and proficiencies they are looking for.

Students can use their digital badge and achievements in the following ways:

Email Signature:

Students use the image of their badge and link it to the metadata about the earning of the badge by placing it in their email signature.

Linkedin:

SimRated’s badge platform allows students to click on a “share button” to share directly to their Linkedin profile letting viewers see their experience and click to learn more about the achievement.

Resume:

Students can obtain a digital badge image and place it on their resume to show their accomplishments. The image will then be linked to the criteria and metadata behind the badge.

Printed Copy:

Should a student ever need a physical copy of their badge, they can print it out like a traditional certificate.
