Meet Our Team

Cameron Ricks MD RN

Founder, CEO
I am a practicing Anesthesiologist for the past 15 years and Medical Director of the Simulation Center a UC Irvine. I have worked at many levels of healthcare including as a California State Lifeguard, hospital orderly, EMT, RN and MD. I have been involved in medical student and resident education for 15 years. I enjoy spending time with my wife and 2 boys. My hobbies are sailing and boat building.
Michael Ma

Co-Founder, CTO
Michael began his career in research, specializing in statistics and big data within healthcare. His passion for the intersection of technology and medicine led him to pursue a medical degree, with a continued focus on engineering applications in healthcare. He will receive his MD this year and plans to further his training in anesthesiology.
As the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Michael brings a unique blend of clinical insight and technical expertise to the team, driving innovation at the crossroads of medicine and technology.
Outside of work, Michael enjoys capturing the world through photography and exploring new restaurants.

Dawn M. Elfenbein, MD, MPH

Doctor, Educator
Dr. Elfenbein is a general and endocrine surgeon and associate professor of surgery at the University of Wisconsin. She earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore after spending two years teaching high school in New Orleans as a Teach for America corps member. She completed an internship and residency in general surgery at Duke hospital, and earned a master’s degree in public health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then completed a fellowship in endocrine surgery at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI.
Kam Weller A.T.,C., P.T.A

Educator
I am currently head athletic trainer at Lakewood High School. I teach Sports Medicine and Anatomy at the high school. I also teach Introduction to Sports Medicine at Long Beach City College. I received my BA from CSULB and MA from Azusa Pacific University. I am a Certified Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapy Assistant, and a Nationally Board-Certified Science teacher.
K. Michelle Malchiodi A.T.,C

Certified Athletic Trainer, Consultant
I received my BA from Cal State, Long Beach in 1998 and have been a certified athletic trainer for over 25 years. I earned my teaching credential in secondary physical education in 2000 and worked at Lakewood High School in Long Beach, CA as a PE teacher, swim coach and co-athletic trainer until 2016. During this time I earned an MA in educational administration.
After having my second son I decided to leave that position and do freelance athletic traing work. I miss working with high school students and love that SimRated allows me to interact with students again!
I love sports and helping student-athletes achieve to their fullest potential.
Karina Calvin RN

Registered Nurse, Rater at SimRated
I graduated from Mount Saint Mary's University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing and earned my Registered Nursing License in 2008. I began my nursing career in a Medical Surgical Nursing department. I moved on from hospital nursing to a vascular surgery center as a pre-op and post-op nurse. I currently hold a California Registered Nursing license, BLS and first aide certification. I love being a nurse and SimRated allows me the opportunity to interact with students and help them achieve their training goals. My husband and I enjoy spending time with our four children and two dogs, and you can usually find us on the pool deck or sports field on the weekends!
Fun fact: Both of my grandmothers were nurses and inspired me to follow my dream to become a nurse!
Jen Gibson

Director of Marketing
In 2021, Jen began her journey with SimRated as Director of Marketing, where she is responsible for elevating the company’s brand narrative and expanding its market presence. With a unique blend of marketing expertise and a passion for education, she is dedicated to advancing SimRated’s mission.
Before joining SimRated, Jen built a distinguished career as an education consultant, collaborating with non-profits and edtech firms to refine educational strategies, digital initiatives, business development, and content marketing. Her professional journey began in public affairs, where she honed her marketing skills at the Orange County Register Newspaper immediately after college.
Driven by her commitment to education, Jen returned to academia to earn a teaching credential and a master’s degree in education. Over 17 years in public education, she served as a teacher, adjunct faculty member at Chapman University, Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA), and curriculum coordinator. Her career later transitioned into the edtech sphere, where she held executive positions at Lesson Planet and ABC-CLIO.
Jen’s academic credentials include a B.A. in International Politics from Cal Poly Humboldt, a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Chapman University, an M.S. in Education from Grand Canyon University, and a Business Certificate in Marketing from UCLA.
